Solar panels power a projection of the sun.
A material alliance between NASA and a local solar panel provider. The sun draws itself.
NASA heliophysics and PortableElectric forged the first exhibition, curated by Chris Brayshaw, at CSA Space, 2019, Vancouver aka unceeded territories of the Musqueam, Squamish, and Tsleil-Waututh peoples). Site build by Steven Tong.
The second iteration was made between NASA heliophysics and Solara GmbH in “Part of the Problem”, Silent Green, curated by Forum Expanded curatorial team: Uli Ziemens, Stefanie Schulte Strathaus, Maha Maamoun, Amselm Franke. The Sun was one of several works included in What is Welcome? the 2023 collection show curated by Barbara Cole and Melanie O'Brian at the Morris and Helen Belkin Gallery, UBC, 2023, Musqueam Territory. Site build by Owen Sopotiuk.
The artist stands against the Canadian government’s military reinforcement and funding of the fossil fuel industries. She stands in solidarity with both the Wet'suwet'en and the Coast Protectors — with all who protect water, forest, the biota and themselves against colonial violence.
